IBCB DELEGATION PARTICIPATE IN EAST ASIAN JOINT SYMPOSIUM

On Nov. 18-19, the 10th East Asian Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research washeld at Kyodai Kaikan, Kyoto, Japan. The symposium was organized by Institute forVirus Research, Kyoto University. Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (IBCB)delegation which was headed by the executive director, Prof. Lin LI, was composed with 4 PIs and 6 graduate students and participated in the Symposium. The symposium has 5 sessions: genome and molecular biology; signal transduction and cancer biology; neuroscience and development; host defense and immunology. There was also a mini-symposium specific for the students´ presentation. The symposium provided an opportunity for the scientists from IBCB to interact with foreign scientists, and a good opportunity for training our graduate students how to prepare English presentations. This meeting set a stage for the scientists from IBCB to present our research work and won a recognition by the colleagues from other institutes. The outstandingperformance of our graduate students was also approved by the meeting participates. This symposium has set up an outstanding student presentation prize. Mr. Weijun Pan from IBCB was awarded the prize.
 
East Asian Joint Symposium on Biomedical Research is an institutional symposium including: Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo (IMSUT, Japan), Institute for Virus Research, Kyoto University (IVR, Japan), Institute for Molecular Biology and Genetics, Seoul National University (IMBG, Korea), Samsung Biomedical Research Institute, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine (SBRI, Korea), Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IBCB, Shanghai, China), and Institute of Biochemistryand Molecular Biology, National Taiwan University, College of Medicine (IBMB, Taiwan, China). The meeting holds every year and each institute host the meeting once. Headed by formal directors, Profs. Boliang Li and Zuxun Gong, IBCB started to join this symposium in 2001.
