The 21st IUBMB and 12th FAOBMB International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Held

The 21st IUBMB and 12th FAOBMB International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology was recently held in Shanghai International Convention Center during August 2nd and 7th. It was held in China for the first time since 1949 and was co-organized by Chinese society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chinese Society for Cell Biology and the Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (IBCB) et al. Chair of IUBMB Prof. Angelo Azzi, Chair of the FAOBMB Prof Masamitsu Futai, vice-chairman of CPPCC (Chinese People´s Political Consultative Conference) Prof. Zhizhen Wang, the vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences Prof. Mianheng Jiang, Shanghai vice Mayor Prof. Xiaoming Shen, and about 3,000 scholars from all over the world participated in this big Congress.
 
The Congress used the theme of "Biomolecules for Quality of Life", and concerned the most vigorous topics in life sciences such as gene dynamics and gene regulation, protein structure, dynamics and proteomics, cell signaling and network, and molecular basis of diseases. More than 160 famous experts gave lectures at the Congress including 4 Nobel Prize Winners. Hundreds of posters were exhibited aiming to showcase the current research work.
 
The Congress achieved a high academic level which brought exchange of new knowledge and ideas. The next Congress will be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2012.
