2012 SIBCB Annual Symposium

The Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB) held its 2012 Annual Symposium in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province from January 10th to 11th, 2013. About 330 people attended this symposium. As invited speaker, Prof. Xiaodong Wang, director of National Institute of Biological Sciences, Beijing and Prof. Yue Xiong from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill/Institutes of Biomedical Sciences at Fudan University gave excellent speeches. Also, Prof. Ruiming Xu, director of the Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS), Ms. Liping Wang, chief of the Department of Biological Medicine in the Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, CAS, Mr Ruisheng Gu, chief of the Division V of Life Science in the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Prof. Shaocong Sunfrom MD Anderson Cancer Center, the University of Texas were invited to attend the symposium.

Dr. Anning Lin, director of SIBCB, first gave a brief review of SIBCB’s achievements in 2012 on academic organization and research team development, research progress and achievements, Inter- and intra-national communication and collaboration, extramural funding, core facilities and administrative innovation. Then, he proposed that the key work in 2013 would be:
1) Continue implementing the SIBCB Strategic Plan (2011-2015);
2) Continue developing the National Center for Comprehensive Protein Science Shanghai;
3) Strengthening translational medicine research;
4) Optimizing the administration system;
5) Launching the senior-PI initiative.
At the end of the opening speech, Dr. Lin encouraged all SIBCB people to overcome various temporary difficulties with joint effort so as to make SIBCB as one of the top institutes in the world.
 
 
 
Besides the special invited speeches presented by Prof. Xiaodong Wang and Prof. Yue Xiong, 11 PIs and 9 graduate students gave oral presentations on the symposium. Also, every lab shared their research achievements by poster session.
