2013 Symposium on Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology

The Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB) held 2013 Symposium on Biochemistry and Molecular Cell Biology in Shangyu, Zhejiang province from January 9th to 11th, 2014. About 280 people attended this symposium. As invited speaker, Prof. Yufang Shi, director of Institute of Health Sciences, Chinese Academy Sciences (CAS) and Prof. Yigong Shi from Tsinghua University gave excellent speeches. Also, Dr. Xiaobo Ren, chief of Division of Resources, Environment and Life Sciences in the Bureau of Major Research and Development Programs, CAS, Dr. Yi Shen, chief of Division of Life Sciences in the Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education, CAS were invited to attend the symposium.
Dr. Anning Lin, director of SIBCB, first gave a brief review of SIBCB’s achievements in 2013 on academic organization and research team development, research progress and achievements, extramural funding, core facilities and administrative innovation, Inter- and intra-national communication and collaboration. Then, he proposed that the key work in 2014 would be:
1) Implementation of the “One-Three-Five” Strategic Planning;
2) Development of the “Recruitment-Promotion-Retention” (RPR) program;
3) Talent team construction of National Center for Protein Science Shanghai.
4) Strengthening translational medical research.
At the end of the opening speech, Dr. Lin encouraged all SIBCB people to conduct pioneering work, represent academic authority in major research areas so as to make SIBCB as one of the top institutes in the world.
Besides the special invited speeches presented by Prof. Yufang Shi and Prof. Yigong Shi, 11 PIs and 9 graduate students gave oral presentations on the symposium. Also, labs and facilities shared their achievements by poster session.
