On May 18, 2015, the 2014 Shanghai Science and Technology Awarding Conference was held in the Shanghai Exhibition Center. Chaired by Deputy Party Secretary, Mayor Mr. YANG Xiong, Party Secretary Mr. HAN Zheng delivered a speech, and city officials attended the Conference.

287 Programs/Scientists were awarded, including several scientists from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB), Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS.

Prof. Hui Lijian was one of the 10 winners of Youth Science and Technology Outstanding Contribution Award. A project “The role and mechanism of BMP signaling in central neural system development” led by Prof. JING Naihe won Natural Science Award 1st Prize.

Prof. HUI Lijian, Awardee of 2014

Dr. Hui Lijian obtained his PhD degree from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology (SIBCB) in 2003. He had his Postdoc training in Dr. Erwin Wagner lab at Institute of Molecular Pathology, Vienna, Austria. Dr. Hui’s research has been focused on the mechanistic regulation underlying tumorigenesis and lineage conversion. His major achievements include directly induction functional hepatocyte-like (iHep) cells from fibroblasts (Cell Stem Cell 2014, Nature 2011), the elucidation of mechanisms involved in tumorigenesis of normal cells (Nature Cell Biology 2012; Hepatology 2013).

Prof. JING Naihe, Awardee of 2014

Dr. Jing is currently a Principal Investigator in SIBCB. He has received Ph. D. degree in Biochemistry from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1988. He has being a postdoctoral research fellow in The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN), Japan from 1989-1991, and a visiting scholar in Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Germany from 1996-1997. In 1991, Dr. Jing became the group leader and Associate Professor in Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry, CAS, and was promoted to full Professor in 1995. He has been on the current position since 2000. Dr. Jing is now an Associate Editor for Journal of Molecular Cell Biology and BMC Developmental Biology, and is in the Editorial Board of Cell Research, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Developmental Dynamics, Gene Expression Patterns, and Mechanisms of Development. Dr. Jing’s research interest is to understand molecular mechanisms of central nervous system development and embryonic stem cell neural differentiation. Dr. Jing’s major achievements are as bellows: Successfully reveals the molecular mechanism of the BMP signaling in the neural differentiation of pluripotent stem cells, successfully reveals the molecular mechanism of the BMP signaling in embryonic neural tube development. Dr. Jing has published more than 60 papers in prestigious journals, including Developmental Cell, Nature Communications, eLife, PNAS and Cell Research.
