Prof. Eric Westhof and Prof. Nicholas Jarvis Proudfoot gave the “WANG Ying-Lai lectures” on November 22nd and 24th in the CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science/SIBCB.

Prof. Westhof is Member of French Academy of Sciences and Member of the Academia Europaea. He was the winner of many awards ,including Medal of the French Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, SFBBM and RNA Society Lifetime Achievement Award, ect. His lecture titled “The Third Genetic Code” showed the evolution of the genetic code, decoding and tRNA post-transcriptional modifications at the anti-codon loop.

Prof. Proudfoot is the Brownlee-Abraham Chair of Molecular Biology, Professor of Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford University, UK. He is an elected member of EMBO since 1982 and an elected Fellow of the Royal Society since 2005. This time, he described a new method called NET-seq and its application, making essential contributions to the understanding of RNA polymerase II transcription.

“It is amazing to attend the lectures given by the renowned molecular biologists.” said Li Zhang, a graduate student who attended the lectures in SIBCB.

So far, 14 professors abroad have been invited to give the WANG Ying-Lai lectures, appealing to many researchers and graduate students.

Prof. Westhof and Prof. Proudfoot were issued certificates by Prof. Jianfeng Chen, Deputy Secretary of the CPC, SIBCB and Prof. Jinqiu Zhou, Deputy Director, SIBCB.
